Any student who requests an extended checkout for a laptop due to circumstances beyond their control (theft, lack of funds to purchase/repair a laptop, unable to meet academic requirements with current laptop, etc.) must first speak with one of the following people:
- Jennifer Crandall
- Tony Nowak
- Alea Cross
- David Martin
- Faculty Chair
- Thornton Lothrop - 3D Design / IA+D and ID
- Kim Miller - New Studio Practice and Fine Arts
- Dale Shidler - 2D and 4D Design / Illustration and Communication Design
- Chelsea Holton - Art History and Natural Science
- Barbara McLaughlin - Writing and Humanities
- Kate Schaffer - FYE
The person listed above must inform David Martin of the situation and both he and the Chair or staff must approve the extended checkout for a specific period of time. The Chair/staff will send an email to both Michael Petrella and Crystal Lemmer providing detailed reasoning for the request.
If the student is unable to meet the Chair/staff in person they must email their Faculty Chair and CC the following:
- David Martin
- Michael Petrella
- Crystal Lemmer
The email should explain what happened to their laptop and why they need an extended checkout laptop.
When both the Chair/staff and David Martin have approved the request via email then the student will meet with either Michael Petrella or Crystal Lemmer to sign a contract, review the extended checkout policy, and take possession of the laptop.
If it becomes apparent that the student will not have the funds to repair his/her laptop or to purchase a new one, he/she will be directed to Carol Masse in Financial Aid to review potential financing options.
Students must always return laptops on the date and time specified in the checkout notice they receive via their MIAD email account when the extended checkout is processed. Students must always return laptops by the last day of classes - no exceptions. Laptop checkout extensions do not go beyond the school semester. Failure to comply with these policies will result in the student being automatically locked out of the checkout system.
