Laptop Security Return Policy
Laptops are a vital part of MIAD’s education, and checking them out for schoolwork is a very highly valued service available at the Technology Services desk.
When a student keeps a laptop overnight without prior approval from senior IT staff, the following disciplinary actions will be taken:
Technology Services will attempt to contact the student:
The student will receive the email below from one of the technology department supervisors AND the student’s account will be disabled in the checkout system.
Hello ____
You checked out laptop ______ and charger _______ from us at ________ and it was due back ________. Checkout laptops cannot be held overnight. Unless you have been given prior approval by senior IT staff or you notified Technology Services that the laptop would be late, you may face loss of checkout services at Technology Services, Photo, and Time Based Media.
If you are not able to return the laptop at this time and have it in your possession, contact us immediately at 414-847-3220, reply to this email or stop by Technology Services.
The student has been contacted by email and has not responded within 24 hours.
The student will be contacted by phone to work out a time to return the laptop.
The student will receive this email as well as a phone call stating the following:
Hello _____
You still have laptop ______ and charger _______ that was due back on ______ and have failed to respond to our attempts to contact you.
You must return this equipment within 24 hours upon receipt of this email. Failure to do so will result in a lockout of your MIAD IT, accounts which will deny access to school computers, Moodle, Zmail, and printing services until the laptop is returned.
If you are not able to return the laptop, contact us IMMEDIATELY at 414-847-3220, reply to this email or stop by Technology Services.
CC: Tony Novak, Becky Balistreri, Matt Ogden on this email.
A ticket will be made and monitored by the tech assistant to notify a supervisor in Technology Services immediately when the student has returned the laptop or made contact with the desk.
The penalty at this point is a ban from checkout privileges for the rest of the semester.
The student has not returned laptop in 48 hours or failed to respond to both email and phone contact attempts.
The student’s IT accounts will be locked. This will effectively deny access to school computers, Moodle, Zmail, and printing services.
The student will receive a final phone call from Technology Services and will be told that they are locked out of school systems until the laptop is returned. At this point we are required to involve MIAD Security and a police report will be filed.
The student will permanently lose checkout privileges for their duration at MIAD.
