Over the past few days it's come to our attention that the fallout from the recent phishing attempts and subsequent account break-ins on our network have caused MIAD to be placed on email black lists. These black lists are subscribed to by commercial internet providers (AT&T, Road Runner, etc.) to try to stem the tide of spam. For the most part this system works.
The problem is that a few of these black list providers extract money from internet providers such that, to work with them and remove mail servers from their black list after problems have been dealt with, you must subscribe to their 'service'. To many in the IT industry this is considered extortion and we refuse to pay.
To deal with this situation a change was made on our network on Wednesday, September 7th to alter how email is sent. This was done so that we can send email out without it looking like it's coming from somewhere on the offending black list(s). During this change our mail service bounced quite a few messages. This has since stabilized and is helping with the situation of providers like Road Runner black listing our mail service.
